Rated 4 out of 5 by i dig holes I do new construction plumbing for a living, which means digging holes before there is cement. They're comfortable and durable. i have put these boots in water countless times, dug I don't know how many holes, and walked I dont know how far on cement; all in these boots. I have owned them for two years, and now I need to get new soles on them. I have two problems with them, other wise it's a perfect boot.1) they don't fit my foot well. I needed to go up a size to fit the steel toe. So I need to wear two pairs of socks.2) the stitching on the front part of leather is coming loose after two years and it can't be repaired. So I won't put on new soles if the leather is coming apart. (It should be noted that I did not care for these boots the way I should have)I would buy this boot again, and I would care for it better, oil it more often, rinse them off when I got home, take out the bottom and dry them. But they don't fit my foot well, so I am finding a better fitting boot that I hope will live up to the standard that these boots set.Put on the tough toe, it will out last the boot and keep your boots nice longer. Rated 4 out of 5 by Life-Long Red Wing owner no longer I bought my first pair of 971's about 4 years ago. I wanted a work boot that I could wear all day, and also wear when I ride my motorcycle. The first pair were perfect, with the exception that the leather surface scratches easily and don't look so great after a year working in heavy maintenance (who cares what they look like?# Since my company pays a good chunk of my expense, I purchased another pair about 2 years ago. I noticed that they were no longer made in the USA but in China. With that came a boot that no longer fit properly #too narrow), and the eyelets were sharp and chewed up laces)... as I ordered them at a Red Wing's store, the guy said they don't make them in a wider width. I ended up giving them to goodwill, but still wear the original pair on occasion. If they ever make them in the USA again, I would purchase these again. But, alas, they don't. Don't waste your money. Rated 5 out of 5 by Scissor lift accident On Wednesday, May 28th, 2014 I ran over my foot with a scissor lift... (controlling it from outside, turned too sharp and was too close.) The lift ran over my foot and then my foot was caught under the front corner of the frame. If it weren't for these boots, I would no longer have a foot. But because I was wearing them I only have severe bruising and sprain. I was back climbing ladders the very next day. Definitely worth every penny. I will NEVER buy another brand of work boot! Rated 5 out of 5 by just bought my second pair today I work with asphalt and concrete I put these pair of 971s thro it all the boot is amazing.. I had a bobcat run over one of my toes. the amazing thing is this is instead of clamping down on my tows( horror cutting story's# its pushed the whole steel toe assembly back bending my foot. I took the boot off stuck a sledge hammer handle into it and pounded the plate back in place. the only bad side to this boot is its got a life span. just like a tire you going to need new rubber in 1 year. I got an extra 3 months re-soling them but they blew out like a Wall-Mart pair exactly 3 months. guessing that stitching the soul is what makes it a work boot. that cops story lol I've had these boots for 4 yrs #driving boots). If you work hard 1 year b4 replaced. p.s. these boots keep your feet dry I can walk through anything... i'm working in the rain all day my feet are the only thing that's dry ^^ - dry feet = happy worker May 27, 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by eyelet flaw These are my work boots not a walking boot. The design of the eyelets is too sharp causing my laces to fray and break. I've had these boots for two months and have gone to the store to get replaced once and bought my own 4 times already. Eyelets need to be rounded somehow and not just a straight sharp edge. Other wise a great boot. May 11, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Phenomenal I am a police officer and wear these boots daily. I've owned my pair for 4 years. The boots that my department had issued to me in the past were only as good until you broke them in. Once they were broken in, it was time for a new pair. This is the ideal boot to have, when you are out on the streets. Just a little bit of polish and they look brand new. The fact that when the soles wear out, just get a new pair sewn on. Haven't had to do that yet, but when I do, I know that I can.The customer service is amazing. My laces began to fray and I had sent an email to customer service. With a quick response to my email, customer service stated that a replacement pair of laces would be sent to me.I recommend to fellow officers who are looking for a good quality boot, that they don't need to look any further. The quality, performance and durability that these Red Wing boots have are amazing.Satisfied and life long customerSGT. B April 29, 2014
