Rated 3 out of 5 by Fix the sole I bought my first pair of these nearly 30 years ago when my department approved them. They are still nearly the same boot today as back then. That is too bad. If RW would put a more aggressive, longer wearing sole, I'd rate these a five star boot and I'd still be wearing them. RW UPDATE THE SOLE! Please! January 22, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by They Don't Come Any Better I have been an industrial fire fighter for 20+ years and have worn these boots all that time. I was also a volunteer at my local fire station and had to buy another brand of boot that the department required, those boots weren't worth the leather they were made of. The Red Wing boot has been the best investment for my feet since I first purchased them. We receive a boot allowance every year to maintain or buy a new pair of boots, I keep buying this boot or resoling the boot. I have never been as satisfied with a boot as this one. I have gone through much the same as any firefighter but in an industrial setting and these boot have done the job exceptionally well and exceptionally comfortably. I am constantly surprised at the end of the day after 12 to 16 hours in them, that my feet are never sore or tired from the boot. I spend a lot of time walking, climbing towers, on elevated gratings and these boots are always comfortable, whether it's summer or winter in the cold and rain. I polish my boots regularly and during the winter use mink oil to help keep the leather protected against the elements and these boots just keep going and going. I cannot recommend a better boot. This boot has been the very best for me all these years. I am retiring in a couple of months and will use my last boot allowance to buy another pair for use "around the house". January 10, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great boot but needs a more aggressive sole I have been a firefighter for 27 years and have had many pairs of this boot. It's perfect for the station, lightweight, comfortable, and durable. The front zippers make easy-in-easy-out a nice option for firefighters. However the boot falls short in traction. This is the only boot that is capable of front zipper's from Redwing but has a VERY low traction sole. Many guys in my station switched from these because of lack of traction in inclement weather. REDWING PLEASE UPDATE THE SOLE TO A MORE AGGRESSIVE TREAD & YOU WILL SELL A TON. January 4, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by The only duty boot I will own. As a firefighter I've had three pair of duty boots in twenty years, all redwing. One pair got lost. The other two I still have and wear o duty. I have the second pair so I can swap them out while one pair is getting resoled. I've tried other work boots and none hold up. These are amazing boots and are very well made. The factory sole is great for a wet floor but doesn't do too well out doors. It also wore down pretty fast. I have our cobbler put vibrates on them and they work great. The fact their made here is icing on the cake. August 24, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Hard Choices I recently visited my Red Wing shoe dealer to take my boots in for new zippers and soles. I am an urban area firefighter and have been wearing this model for 23 years. These old boots have stepped in most everything. After all this time they have kept going strong. Some of the weathering cracks started concerning me last year so I kept them in the locker during the snow. So, after talking with my local store, 75.00 for soles and 35.00 for new zippers led me to purchase a new pair. Only another 9 years to go in my career, so I expect these should last just fine. There is no better boot for fire service. Remember, this style of boot is like a baseball glove or pair of good leather work gloves. They take a little time to conform to your feet for maximum comfort. Thanks Red Wing for keeping Americans working, and all the American workers keeping Red Wing going strong. July 6, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by 20 years and going I started in 1995 with this boot. 20 years later still the same boot with no problems. If you want a really comfortable sole, get the vibram sole put on for 30 dollars. You will not regret it. June 28, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Comfortable and well made boots I have had my boots for 2 years. I use them while riding my motorcycle. They are just tall enough that I don't have to wear rain gaiters. These boots have never leaked and I have ridden through heavy rain for hours. They fit my feet perfectly which makes them very comfortable to wear. During cross country rides I have had these boots on my feet for 12 plus hours a day for 10 straight days. They are also very comfortable to walk in. These are the best boots I have ever owned. The fine quality of these boots are evident when you examine them. June 1, 2015
