Rated 5 out of 5 by owned many pairs! Work major highway construction last about 6 months on heavy my opinion and experience this style of boot is the best and compared to other brands these boots seem to last the longest!..the soles are soft so over time they do wear down and the waterproofing does last but over time of heavy rain and standing in puddles they do leak... Rated 5 out of 5 by Rough Beginning, Smooth Ending My first pair of Red Wings. First time wearing them I had extreme pain and blisters on my ankle bone from the inside rivets. I put padding inside to cover the rivets, it helped. I changed the way I laced my laces, not using the top rivet and wrapping my laces around the boot After a few more times of wearing them, there was no pain. The padding fell off. The breaking in period was over. They are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. June 20, 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by red wing 406 my 406s need to be replaced and I will probally buy another pair. I looked these up before I bought them couldn't believe someone had them 14yrs. I've had mine wbout 7 still worn daily have hole in front where I tore them up running into etrack in a trailer they have no tread at all. these have been most comfortable boots I've ever had. Rated 2 out of 5 by Ill fitting Purchased these boots a month ago and thought I would really be happy with them. However after wearing them for a few days the left one was still tight in the toe area. After two weeks for some reason it seemed like the arch support was hitting me right in front of the heel. They are also horrible for pulling my socks down and you can't blame that on poor quality socks because I bought a half dozen pair of Quality Red Wing socks when I bought the boots. I have been wearing Red Wings for over 40 years now and will continue to buy them. For the most part I have been satisfied but not always. The pair that these boots replaced were very comfortable but I wanted something with a defined heel. September 26, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by True Work Boot I purchased pair of the Red Wing 406 work boots spring 2013 while looking for boot that would work and be comfortable with new custom orthotics for upto 16 hours a day. After 18 months working in all types of weather sun to rain to snow in the construction industry they have held up excellent, sole still has considerable amount of tread remaining, leather is soft and has conformed perfect to orthotics and foot. The boot has kept my feet dry even when working hours during the rain in muddy conditions. These boots are more expensive than the typical department store boots that I could pick up on sale from $80 to $100 that fit my feet but typically in past with the name brand department store boots which in their on right vary good boots the life expectancy for amount I wear and type of work conditions at best was 10 months. So overall the 406 boot even though over 2 times price of other boots purchased in past I will get 3 to 4 times the duration of use which makes them a more cost effective boot over time. Lastly as soon as I purchased the boots and wore them the first day they felt like a boot that I had been wearing for months, little to no break in period or the sore feet associated with new boots I had in past. Strongly recommend to follow care products with this or any boot. August 30, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best of All The Red Wing 406 boot is hands down the best boot I have ever worn, I went into Red Wing and asked what boot was the best for the buck and the sales person said they had a clearance pair in the back in the size I wanted. They came out and said I might be, and I quote, "the luckiest person in the world." The boots they brought out were originally $210.00 but that they have been in the back a while and were priced at $87.00! I tried them on and instantly went to the register to pay for the boots. I have had them for a year and a half and they have held up to every type of weather imaginable, from dirt to asphalt, wet or dry, muddy, cold, hot literally anything. The only problem was that they didn't have another pair for me to buy. I rubbed a hole in the toe of the boot and need them to be re-sown and get a new sole, but after almost 2 years they fit better than any other shoe I have ever owned and the best $87.00 I have ever spent.
