Rated 4 out of 5 by Medium-Duty Good Quality Boot Providing Above Average Value After trying many different RW boot options, I finally landed on the 2233. Only recently did I confirm accurate foot sizing after wearing 11Ds for years--12.5B right 13.0B left! Settling into 12.0B boots did the trick on these. I have high arches and high instep with some plantar pain if I don't have proper support. Very happy with the Made In USA option, good overall quality compared to the majority of boot options available today in most other stores, subdued nickel hardware and traditional aesthetics. I wanted a solid, well made 8" boot that could be resoled and the 2233 delivers good value for the money without breaking the bank. One critical feature--the 522 Last--cinched proper fitting of my feet. RW has moved substantially away from this old-school last into a more Muson-fits-90%-of-the-feet style of last which fails to match up with my feet, hence so many poor RW fitments in the past years. It is much more true to the anatomical structure of the foot. RW needs a logger/lineman/traditional boot using this last! Good heel cupping and will fit all but the highest of insteps. One important aside, RW boots tend to be relatively flat inside, so if you require any degree of arch support--keep that in mind re: cork insoles, orthotics, etc, so for me this is always considered.Initial break-in has been relatively uneventful, taking about 1.5 weeks of alternating every other day wearing mid-weight merino socks each time, building up total wear time, to feel mostly there. Generous oiling prior to first wear helped. They will continue to mold to my feet going forward. The steel shank adds beneficial support.Leather is uniform in color, quality and detail. Consistent sewing lines, however the heel cap does not wrap fully around the sides of the heel, despite a cosmetic line of sewing giving the illusion. The leather is not as thick as I expected, but again with a price point of $209 plus tax don't expect heavy leather wild land construction. For some reason, the left tongue is significantly thinner than the right, something I didn't catch after special ordering (no they don't carry it as a regular stock item in my local RW store). They sole is acceptable, a compromise of traction, mud retention and function. First resoling will see a Vibram option installed. Why buy any footwear that cannot be rebuilt? May not wait until worn out, either. Overall it's quiet and picks up only the smallest pebbles, but I would have preferred Vibram from the get-go.The 2233 is a medium-duty, good quality boot providing above average value that I recommend as an option for people needing to fill this need. Those seeking a boot with a nod to the traditional, instead of the all to common tennis-boot throw-aways--you will be quite satisfied. September 23, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by High Quality Boot. Very comfortable once broken in. I work in a warehouse and more recently I've been delivering large quantities of heavy goods to commercial customers. These boots are excellent if you spend all day on your feet and need steel toes. They offer good ankle support and are very comfortable once they're broken in and at $200, they're a reasonably good deal since they last allot longer than many other brands of boots. They only real drawback I can think of this that the un-padded tongue of this boot has a tendency to fold over on it's self and cut into your foot, but this issue goes away as the boots are broken in. I've been working in these boots for a few years now and I highly recommend them. September 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Like a glove I was in the market for a new pair of work boots so I decided to stop by my local Red Wing store located on Kirkwood HWY in Delaware. The customer service was fantastic. They fitted me to the T and pointed me in the right direction. I'm a IBEW LU 313 electrician and I'm on my feet 8+ hours every day. I needed 3 things outta my work boots; superior comfort, steel toes, and they need to be made in the good old USA. These boots do an amazing job and leave my feet in good condition everyday. Thanks to my local store and the superior quality of Red Wing. I will purchase these again in the future.- Walt August 21, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Third pair My previous pair was just getting too worn down. I had used them for nearly six years and had the soles replaced twice. This boot is fantastic and gets better with age. Excellently made in the USA. My only complaint would be that the soles wear down pretty quick considering the rest of the boot seems to last forever. A harder compound sole might possibly solve that problem. Anyway, I cannot recommend these boots enough. AWESOME! July 22, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Landscaper approved! I'm into my 6th pair of 2233's. I've been landscaping since 1993; my coworkers buy 2-3 pairs of no name or Walmart boots each year. My 13d's last me 2 years, that's around 6x longer than their boots. I pay nearly $200 every two years, they spend $60-$80 twice a year do the math. July 2, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by A True Classic! Timeless design, thoroughly comfortable, and short: the John Wayne of boots! They cinch up rather nicely, the steel shank (getting harder and harder to still find) provides ample support for heavy guys like myself, while the sole tackles nearly every terrain with panache. My only real criticism is the width; these definitely run about one full size narrow, so if you are a true double 'EE' for example, I would recommend sizing up one full size to a triple 'EEE'. Other than that, this boot is simply an outstanding example of what Red Wing boots does right. May 4, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great pair of boots This is my first pair of these 2233 boots. I had many different models of Red Wing boots. I wanted to get a pair of ole school brown boots. The only gripe I have is that when I lace them the eyelets of the boots are touching, which results in longer laces at the top. I like my boots to have about 1 1/2 to 2/inch between the eyelets making my feet conform to the leather of the boots. I still like the boots, the feel of it and it broke in very easily. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great work boot Just bought my 3rd pair of this boot. The workmanship is great and they will last for years on the concrete floors of mills. March 4, 2015
