Rated 5 out of 5 by LOVE THE ANKEL SUPORT AND THICK SOLE, light boot By far the best work boot iv'e ever had. I'm going on my second pair of these boots. i don't usually buy steel toe boots for the work i do. but these are not too heavy and they are very comfortable. I work outdoors in all wweather conditions, a very warm boot during the winter and they stay dry on the inside when it rains. Never had a problem with them getting wet on the inside other than my sweaty feet. My work requires a little bit of running at times, and with these boots i can do that. It's like having a pair of hiking boots and work boots put in one. Highly recommended to anyone who works out doors and does not want a heavy work boot that weighs them down. January 14, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Nice boots, didn't last too long I work in a restaurant and bought these Red Wing boots for around $180. They had super thick slip resistant tread. 8 months later (only ~3 of which were full time) the bottoms were nearly flat. They also developed mold on the inside, especially in-between the insole and shoe, probably because during the three months I worked full time, I wore them nearly everyday, so they never had time to dry (they were water proof, so they only got wet from my sweat but didn't breathe well). Also, the leather on the front is quite torn up and they were a bit discolored (my job requires black shoes, so some uptight managers will make a big deal if they're a bit discolored). I used leather conditioner on them, but not very often, maybe once every month and a half. They were great shoes in terms of comfort and support, and I really loved having a steel toe. I even used them a bit for hiking and they worked great. However, if I'm going to pay nearly $200 for a pair of shoes, I'd like them to last me at least ~2 years, as I can get some $30 shoes from PayLess that will last ~3-4 months until they fall apart and get holes and my feet get soaked with water. Sure, they don't have the same level of support, water proofing, or a steel toe, but I don't make enough money to justify that kind of price jump for a few features. If I got another pair of the same Red Wings, I'm sure I could prevent the mold now that I know it's a problem and keep the leather in better shape through more meticulous care, but that doesn't make too much of a difference if the tread is nearly gone in 8 months of mostly part time work. Rated 5 out of 5 by Best boot I ever bought I don't usually like work boots, but these changed my mind. I'm in my second pair. I work outdoors at a park year round and these boots meet the challenge. They are so comfortable others have told me they have A painful break in period I don't experience that. The waterproof protection is awesome I work near water and have never gotten soaked and have gone into water ankle deep. They are awsome. November 28, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best boots out there! I never write review but I'm completely loyal to these boots. I've bought a few other red wing boots and they don't even come close to compare to these as far as comfort and long lasting goes. I've had these for 4 years working in both finished construction and new construction. They're still comfortable to wear and their not falling apart. I will be buying these boots again only because the loops that the laces go through are breaking. That's my only negative thing to say but for having them for four years that's not even something to be mad at. October 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best boot investment for my feet! I work in Law Enforcement / Corrections and have been working in the field for 11 years now. I got tired of buying and wearing other plastic/rubber brand boots that are in the police catalogs. They always fell apart and never offered more than a years worth of life. I went into a Red Wing store here in Virginia and bought the Red Wing 6690 boots. My ankle and foot pain went away that I previously encountered with other boots. I have had my 6690 boots for 3 years now and are still in very good condition. Best investment I have made for my job, and for having great foot protection. September 1, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by You get what you pay for Being a big guy who is on my feet all day, its not easy finding the perfect boot. I've tried all kinds, always trying to save a few bucks. Finally I said that's it. I'm on my feet all day, if I'm going to invest in anything, let it be a good pair of boots. Well, I've found my perfect boot with these. Great fit, extremely comfortable and very well made! Finally, I can make it through the day without my feet screaming and aching. These boots were well worth every penny I paid for them. I also learned not to compromise or go the cheap route when it comes to your feet and more so, your comfort! I walk on hard concrete and uneven surfaces. These boots handle both with no problem. I highly recommend them! March 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Much improved Bought an identical pair two years ago. They have been excellent but the nylon web lace eyes are starting to break. I just bought a new set of 6690 and these have a metal eye which looks much more durable. They hold up well, provide great support, stay dry and don't feel overly hot or cold throughout the year. Rated 5 out of 5 by Best things I've ever put on my feet! Up and down stairs and ladders. Our generators and chillers are outside in gravel. I visit up north walk in the snow. My motorcycle is my daily driver all year round in AZ and in the winter time its 40 degrees out when i come into work. These boots have been the most comfortable warmest best traction boots I've ever had. Even in the summer time my feet don't over heat. For the bast 2 1/2 years these have been my work and everyday foot wear and if i need another pair of boots i will be getting the same boot but there's a lot left in my current pair. On my feet all day everyday and i don't come home sore. These boots are ready for more. The break in period last about 2 week and it was kinda rough but after that the boots are good to go.
